Those of us who are dog people (or pet people) often think that we have the deepest bonds with our animals, a bond that no one else could possibly share with a dog of their own, a bond that no one else could even understand. Of course, I felt this way about my dog, The Dog of Awesome. It was two years ago this month that I said goodbye to my sweetest bugaboo, The Dog of Awesome. Yes, he was dang awesome– it’s totally true. Even his vet called him The Dog of Awesome. I’m not going to gush all over the place, though, and tell you all about him today. Instead, I am going to share with you one of my favorite dog blogs. It makes me so happy every time I see it.
Recently, I came across the blog, This Wild Idea. I love it for a few reasons. First, Maddie, the coonhound is one cool dog. She is weird, stoic, playful, loving, and talented– she stands on things and is quite the model. I also like the story of her person, Theron Humphrey. Theron left his job as a commercial photographer because that was not the story he wanted to live. He adopted Maddie (yay, rescue dogs!), grabbed his camera, and started a new adventure. The photos that Theron posts are great– they are comical, touching, witty, beautiful; they are just wonderful…. Lastly, Theron’s images truly capture the companionship between him and Maddie. It reminds me so very much of the companionship and the bond I had with The Dog of Awesome, a bond I didn’t think was possible between another human and dog. It absolutely melts me to see. I adore that the bond between these two is so deep and captured so wonderfully. It makes me sigh deeply. And smile.
Dog People, take a look and admire the deep connection between this person and his pet. It’s so wonderful– it visualizes the tenderness you feel for your dog. I am sure that you will recognize the affection exchanged between these too. And some of the humor, as well. For those of you who aren’t Dog People, this blog will make it clear as to why we Dog People love our dogs like we do.
Thanks, Theron. Your dog rocks. Your photos are fab. And you are a great reminder that we can all choose what story we want to live.
