Invented holidays. There is one for almost every day of the year:
- National Pancake Day
- National Ice Cream Day
- World Farm Animals Day
- National Dog Day
- Balloons Around The World Day
- National Grilled Cheese Day
- Improve Your Office Day
- National Hot Dog Day
- Wiggle Your Toes Day
- National Maple Syrup Day (yes, really)
- National Ferris Wheel Day
- Penguin Awareness Day (I’m not making this up)
- National Frozen Food Day
- Chocolate Cake Day (shouldn’t this be every day?)
- Cheer Up The Lonely Day
- Just Because Day (it seems all of these “holidays” are just because)
- Be Late For Something Day
- Fight Procrastination Day (right??)
- Name Your Car Day
The list just goes on and on– and they are all just as ridiculous as the previous. Seriously. September 29th, though, is an invented holiday I can completely support: (Inter)National Coffee Day. In fact, I’m supporting it right now with a cup of coffee.
I drink coffee all day, every day. My typical is a cup of medium roast in a to-go mug, black and unsweetened as I run out the door at 5:30 a.m. on my way to work out. Once home from my work out, I finish most of my little coffee pot as I get ready and do my normal morning stuff and online routine. Then fill up my to-go mug again as I head out the door to walk to work.
If it is a slow, at-home morning I will brew using my Chemex. It is my favorite. I do love a good pour from a French Press, but the Chemex wins. If I am at a coffee shop, I still stick to unsweetened black coffee. I do like my coffee black and coffee flavored. I’ve mentioned this before– no pumpkin spiced lattes for me. If I am feeling like I need a coffee indulgence, sometimes I opt for an Americano or a soy cappuccino. Mmmmmm, coffee. Good coffee.
So, tell me, how do you take your joe? What will be in your mug on September 29th? Are you a black coffee sort of person? Do you drink your coffee at home or at a coffee shop? Do you finish one cup or the entire pot? Is it an espresso, Americano, or a cappuccino for you? So many options!
For National Coffee Day, I do think I may have to head to my favorite local coffee shop, order something completely wonderful, and sit for a while with a special cup.
Do look around a bit for some specials at your local coffee shops. Dunkin’, Starbucks, and McDonalds are amongst those who have some #NationalCoffeeDay specials and freebies.
